We are Michel and Dillon, the founders of Cusco Canine Rescue. For years, our passion has been capturing the bond between people and their pets through our work at Arf & Wag. But during our travels to Cusco, Peru, we witnessed something we could never forget: dogs abandoned, poisoned, beaten, and left to suffer on the streets. Their eyes carried both fear and hope — and we knew we could not turn away.
Why Cusco Needs a Dog Sanctuary
In Cusco, countless dogs struggle to survive each day without food, shelter, or kindness. Some are victims of cruelty; others are simply unwanted. We saw the heartbreaking reality of poisoned dogs lying in the streets, and others mistreated beyond recognition. It was clear: this suffering must stop. Cusco needed a safe haven — and that’s why we are building the Cusco Canine Sanctuary.
Our Vision: Building a Dog Sanctuary in Cusco
Cusco Canine Rescue is more than a shelter. We are building a dog sanctuary in Cusco, Peru — a no-kill refuge where dogs can heal, thrive, and rediscover love. Here, they will receive medical care, food, and patient rehabilitation while we work to find them forever homes. But just as importantly, we aim to create a more compassionate community through education, outreach, and advocacy.
Our Furry Family
We are not just rescuers — we are dog parents ourselves. Our furry family has shown us the love, loyalty, and joy that every dog is capable of giving. They remind us daily why this mission matters: because every dog, no matter where they are born, deserves to feel safe, valued, and loved.
